Peace, Justice and Environment Group

We seek to live lightly on the earth, acting respectfully towards the fragile planet which is our home.

Our Climate Pledge

As a church we are committed to the care of God’s good creation.

Lord of life and giver of hope,

we pledge ourselves to care for creation,

to live sustainably,

to work to reduce our dependence on carbon-based fuels,

to explore the possibilities of renewable energy,

and to value the rich diversity of life.

May your wisdom guide us,

that life in all its forms may flourish,

and may be faithful in voicing creation’s praise.

ECO-CHURCH

2025_EC_Bronze_English.png

Eco Church is a project run by A Rocha UK which guides churches in their carbon reduction quest and encourage them with awards on their journey. Holy Trinity Skipton has achieved a Bronze Award and we are well on our way to applying for Silver.

Beyond heating, the churches in Craven hope to:

  • Enhance biodiversity and sustainability e.g in how they manage churchyards

  • Use renewable energy suppliers.

  • Install LED lighting and improve insulation.

  • Utilize environmentally friendly materials and achieve Fairtrade status.

Part of Eco Church is to encourage these things in the lifestyle of church members and beyond. Like the churches you can begin your journey to net zero by calculating your carbon footprint and assess how you might reduce it.

This means taking stock of how much you fly, drive, use public transport, your home energy usage, where you shop and what you buy.

Do you know what your carbon footprint is?  Here are some tools to help you calculate it;

HOLY TRINITY PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

open the doors of our hearts in awe and wonder to behold the beauty of your presence.

Lord Jesus,

illuminate our path that we might offer generous and loving space for the comfort and need of our neighbour.

Holy Spirit,

unfurl our minds in gratitude and humility that we might witness to the potential and fullness of the Kingdom.
