World War 2 Poem

by Alexander Coupe

The Germans’ bombs rained down,

They were about to claim the Crown,

When the French and English said, “No more!”

They fought back and they fought hard,

Until the Germans laid down their guns, in utter defeat,

Now the time has come,

To rebuild the shattered bonds of trust and loyalty,

The people of Britain,

Their families gone, their sisters, brothers, and fathers alike, disappeared to a better place.

At the bottom of the rubble lies a light like no other,

The light of hope, the light of justice and the light of resilience. And month after month after month, the rubble slowly began to dissolve. With the help of the people of Britain from Scotland to Wales to Northern Ireland.

They all pitched in until the rubble…..was gone.

Until the light underneath the darkness, was as bright as day. It healed the land of Britain, the land of France, The United Nations.

And, after some time, that light healed people’s trust, healed people’s loyalty.

After that, the world was back to the past, when the flowers grew and the animals ran free, back to when we understood the meaning of liberty. From that day on, the people of the world went back to their normal lives, waking without fear, eaving the house without fear and going to sleep without fear. Now because of the women and men who fought for their country, they got us to where we are today.

We do not have to fret, about war or bombs; all they ask in return is some respect for their effort. And they fully deserve it, and that is why we remember them on the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11th hour.

And every time I see a poppy, I always think ‘I will always remember the sacrifices you made to give a better life, in night and day.’

The war was devastating, but we adapted to the changes of the world, everyone has to adapt, once in their life.
